ADAMS and Bishop Variable
Ratio (VR) Steering

ADAMS is a Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) package for the design and analysis of mechanical systems. It is widely used in the automotive industry for the virtual development of new motor vehicles.

Bishop has teamed up with ADAMs, with the assistance of MSC (Aust), to be able to offer Bishop VR as an option for steering designers to use in their new vehicle designs - a world-first.

Bishop VR offers the vehicle manufacturer designers the opportunity to tap into this proven and renowned technology, which enables both a large and fast change in steering ratio.

Modelling VR in ADAMS
Naturally the vehicle manufacturer wants to have CAE models as representative of the production vehicle as possible, so Bishop undertook a task to study ADAMS’ suitability to simulate VR. Whist the ADAMS engine had the capability to model VR, it was a very difficult task for the operator to perform as they had to have a working knowledge of Fortran and access to compilers. Bishop saw an urgent need to make it easier to model VR within the ADAMS environment.

Bishop Solution
Bishop commissioned MSC (Aust) to develop an ADAMS/Bishop VR Coupler. This coupler works within the ADAMS environment and permits the user to model Bishop VR by either parameter input or spline input. An example of the module is shown.

How do I get a copy of this Module
The ADAMS/Bishop VR module is available free of charge and can be obtained by downloading from this website.

To install the module, download and unzip the file below then follow the instructions in the help documentation.
